I am Mawuko Golokuma, an energetic finance major at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Finance is something that has become a passion of mine, in particular, portfolio management. What I love about this stream of study is the knowledge gained from a financial and business perspective. I believe it is the perfect mixture of study because you not only learn the fundamentals of finance, but you can apply them everyday to improve not only your life, but those around you. Not to mention, the earning potential is through the roof!
My other passions consist of sports, fitness and musical performance and production.
My philosophy is simple - If you fail to plan, you plan to fail and investing is no different. I will drive the most value out of your investments by avoiding speculation but by creating an aggregate picture that is well researched and balanced.
I use a Top Down Approach for my portfloio. I take a macroeconomic look at Canada and America to identify industries that are currently thriving and those that are not, and based on those industries, decide on what companies are strong and worth investing in using extensive fundamental analysis. This portfolio will initially be comprised of 10-15 securities, primarily equites. This will insure that I achieve the highest return possible and insure that diversification is in effect to reduce the level of risk. I Actively Manage the portfolio in order to adjust for changes in the economy in terms of business news, geopolitics and idiosyncratic factors for each company. This method will also give me a a better chance of challenging the S&P 500 and the TSX, which will be the benchmarks I use to gauge the performance of my fund.
